Empowering the Upgrading of the Energy Storage Industry: DC-DC Modules Become the Core Supporting Technology for the Implementation of Switching Power Supply Solutions
As the global energy mix accelerates its transition toward clean energy, energy storage—playing a crucial role in balancing the volatility of new-energy power generation and ensuring grid stability—is witnessing a sustained surge in market demand.
As the global energy structure accelerates its transition toward clean energy, energy storage—a critical component for balancing the volatility of new-energy power generation and ensuring grid stability—is witnessing a sustained surge in market demand. Against this backdrop, DC-DC modules used in switching power supplies have emerged as the “core power unit” underpinning the stable operation of energy-storage systems, thanks to their advantages such as high efficiency, high reliability, and compact size. Technological innovations and practical applications of these modules are driving the energy-storage industry toward greater efficiency and enhanced safety.
From the perspective of application scenarios, DC-DC modules play a crucial role as an “energy conversion bridge” in energy storage systems. In the power conversion system (PCS) stage, these modules precisely convert the DC voltage output by battery packs into a stable voltage that meets grid requirements, effectively addressing voltage fluctuations caused by various battery series and parallel configurations and ensuring efficient integration of electrical energy into the grid. In battery management systems (BMS), DC-DC modules with wide-voltage-input capabilities provide a stable power supply to the BMS, enabling it to accurately monitor battery status, prevent overcharging and over-discharging, and extend battery lifespan. Moreover, in applications such as residential and commercial-industrial energy storage, compact DC-DC modules can be tailored to fit tight equipment layouts, reducing the overall system size and energy consumption while meeting the flexible deployment needs of different scenarios.
Currently, the industry is placing ever-increasing demands on the energy efficiency and safety of energy storage systems, which in turn is accelerating the iterative development of DC-DC module technology. On the one hand, the adoption of high-efficiency topologies—such as the LLC resonant topology—has enabled DC-DC modules to achieve conversion efficiencies exceeding 95%, with some high-end products even reaching over 98%, significantly reducing energy losses in energy storage systems. On the other hand, the integration of features like wide-temperature-range design, overcurrent protection, and overvoltage protection allows these modules to operate reliably in extreme environments ranging from -40°C to 85°C, maintaining stable performance under complex operating conditions such as high temperatures and high humidity, thereby further enhancing the safety and reliability of energy storage systems.
According to industry data, the global energy storage market is expected to surpass 300 billion yuan in 2024. As a core component, DC-DC modules have seen an annual market growth rate exceeding 40%. Domestic companies are also actively investing in R&D; for instance, high-integration DC-DC modules launched by companies such as Huawei and Delta have achieved deep integration with energy storage systems, with some products reaching internationally leading performance levels. Industry experts point out that, in the future, as wide-bandgap semiconductor materials like silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) become more widely adopted in DC-DC modules, their energy efficiency and power density will further improve, continuously injecting momentum into the high-quality development of the energy storage industry.
